Market has pared its losses and was trading flat with a negative bias. Sustained selling pressure was witnessed in FMCG stocks which declined over 2%.
Major gainers in the sectoral indices were BSE Bankex (1.44%), IT (1.04%) and Capital Goods (0.39%). On the other hand, BSE FMCG (2.03%), Health Care (1.70%), Realty (1.15%) and Power (0.91%) were major losers in the 30-share index.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap were down by 1.23% and 1.25% respectively.
Currently, the 30-share index Sensex is trading down 10.28 points, or 0.13%, at 8,187.64, after touching a high of 8,200.12 and a low of 8,047.17. Meanwhile the broad based Nifty is trading lower by 12.35 points, or 0.48%, at 2,564.35, after hitting a high of 2,576.75 and a low of 2,539.45. (11.00 a.m.)
The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a loss of 94.17 points, at 8,103.75. In the previous day session, the Sensex ended with a loss of 248.57 points, or 2.94%, while the NSE Nifty declined by 68.50 points, or 2.59%.
Overall market breadth was negative. Out of the total 1,804 shares traded at BSE, 510 advanced, 1,231 declined while 63 remained unchanged.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were ICICI Bank (2.37%), Larsen & Toubro (1.40%),Jaiprakash Associates (1.27%), Wipro (1.26%)and TCS (1.20%).
On the other hand, Ranbaxy Laboratories (3.98%), ITC (3.34%), Grasim Industries (2.17%) and Tata Power Company (1.73%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
