CEP: Canadian Weekly Gas Pump Prices Continue to Creep Higher
 
The average price of gas in Canada rose for the third straight week, according to Calgary-based MJ Ervin & Associates.

The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Canada rose 1.2 cents to $0.874 in the week ended March 10, well off the peak of $1.401 per litre reached in July 2008.

The weekly survey showed Kingston, Ont. had the lowest average price in the country for the third straight week, at $0.775, up 4.2 cents from the prior week.

Yellowknife continued to have the highest average price in the country at $1.014 per litre, up 4.5 cents from the previous week.

The largest price increases were seen in Rimouski, QC, where prices rose 8 cents to $0.959, and Gaspé, QC, which also saw prices rise 8 cents.

The largest price decrease was seen in St. Catharines, where prices fell 3.1 cents to $0.819 per litre.

Prices averaged $0.841 in Toronto, $0.899 in Montreal, $0.820 in Calgary, $0.893 in Halifax and $0.972 in Vancouver.

The price of Nymex crude oil was hovering around $44.50 per barrel on Wednesday.

In 2008, prices in Canada averaged $1.141 per litre.
