MW: Dollar falls further after U.S. jobless claims data
 
The dollar fell further in early trade Thursday, after a report that showed U.S. weekly jobless claims jumped by 185,000 to a record 5.47 million. The U.S. currency has come under heavy selling pressure since Wednesday, after the Federal Reserve announced new extraordinary measures to bring down borrowing costs, including the purchase of Treasurys. The dollar index , which measures the U.S. unit against a basket of six major currencies, stood at 83.163, down from 83.928 in London trade, and from 84.184 in late North American trade Wednesday. The index stood at 86.471 ahead of the Fed announcement.
