Treasury prices inched higher Tuesday, sending yields lower, before the Federal Reserve steps in to buy U.S. debt maturing between 2016 and 2019. Ten-year note yields , which move inversely to prices, fell 3 basis points to 2.81%. Traders are also eyeing stocks, which are heading south after disappointing quarterly results from Bank of New York Mellon and blue chips DuPont and Merck ) lowered their outlooks. Also coming in early trading, Kansas City Fed President Thomas Hoenig and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will testify on Capitol Hill. In particular, investors will be listening for any details about the government's bank stress tests.
