The dollar was mostly lower against other major currencies on Thursday after data showed a rise in initial jobless claims. The dollar index , a measure of the U.S. unit against a trade-weighted basket of currencies, stood at 86.11 in recent trade, slightly down from 86.230 in North American trade late Wednesday. The euro gained 0.2% vs. the dollar to $1.3030, while the dollar rose 0.4% against the Japanese yen to 98.34 yen. The British pound rose 0.5% to $1.4548.
