Indian rupee strengthened against the greenback on account of increased capital inflows by foreign funds on expectations that the domestic bourses may open in the positive zone, tracking other Asian equity markets.
The partially convertible rupee was quoted at Rs 49.85 a dollar, a rise of 0.18% than its previous close of 49.92/94.
Asian stocks gained, as gains by financial companies` countered concern that the global recession is hurting earnings. Meanwhile, India`s benchmark index, the 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 14.48 points, at 11,149.47 on Friday, April 24.
