The U.S. dollar declined versus the euro Friday after the Labor Department said the U.S. economy lost 539,000 jobs in April, less than economists expected. The euro rose to $1.3494 from $1.3396 in late North American trading Thursday. The dollar index a measure of the greenback against a basket of currencies, fell to 83.253 from 83.758 Thursday. The U.S. currency bought 99.16 Japanese yen, compared to 99.23 yen late Thursday. The report also said the unemployment rates rose to 8.9% from 8.5%, matching forecasts.
