The U.S.dollar held modest gains versus most major rivals Friday after the Labor Department reported first-time claims for state unemployment benefits rose 32,000 to 637,000, the highest level since mid-April. The euro briefly edged to a new low for the day versus the dollar at $1.3525 and remains 0.1% lower at $1.3567. The dollar trimmed gains versus the Japanese yen but remains 0.2% higher at 95.48 yen.
