MW: Copper extends losses after jobs data; gold mixed
 
Copper futures extended their losses Thursday in New York after data from the Labor Department showed the number of continuing jobless claims hit a record high in the week ending May 9. First-time claims fell by 12,000 to a seasonally adjusted 631,000 in the week ended May 16, staying above expectations. Continuing claims rose to 6.66 million. After the data, copper for July delivery lost 6.75 cents, or 3.2%, to $2.039 a pound. It was down less than 2% before the data. Meanwhile, June gold was up 30 cents at $937.70 an ounce. The contract ended at the highest level in nearly two months in the previous session.
