RTRS: Euro extends gains vs dollar, trades above $1.40
The euro extended gains versus the dollar on Friday, briefly trading above $1.40 on growing concerns about the U.S. sovereign rating.
The euro rose to a session peak of $1.4008, according to electronic trading platform EBS, the highest level since early January. It was last up 0.7 percent at $1.3992 .
U.S. assets were sold off heavily on Thursday after Britain's outlook was downgraded and sparked worries about the triple-A rating status of the United States. However, signs of a rebound in U.S. equities and bonds emerged on Friday.
