MW: Gold little changed after jobs data, durable goods

Gold futures were little changed in early morning trading Thursday after a pair of government reports showed the number of new layoffs declined last week and durable-goods orders rose more than predicted last month. Gold for June delivery was almost flat at $953.90 an ounce in North American electronic trading. The number of new layoffs declined by 13,000 to 623,000 last week, while the number of people collecting state unemployment benefits rose by 110,000 to a record 6.79 million, the Labor Department reported. Meanwhile, orders for U.S.-made durable goods jumped in April, rising 1.9%.
