MUMBAI: Bulls took a breather on Thursday after a massive rally in the previous session. Investors took to profit booking across all sectors barring the metal pack. The subdued mood across overseas markets weighed on sentiment as well.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex settled at provisional 15,374.90, lower by 0.59 per cent or 91.91 points from the previous session. The index oscillated in a range of 15,568.74 and15,240.73 during the day.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was down 0.63 per cent or 29.5 points at 4625.75. The index touched a high of 4679.55 and low of 4586.15 intra-day.
The BSE Midcap Index inched 0.28 per cent lower and BSE Smallcap Index slipped 0.88 per cent.
Sectorwise, BSE IT Index lost 2.46 per cent, BSE Oil & Gas shed 1.79 per cent, BSE Power fell 1.43 per cent while BSE Metal Index ended 2.68 per cent higher.
Jaiprakash Associates (-4.22%), ACC (-4.13%), ONGC (-4.09%), BHEL (-3.77%) and State Bank of India (-3.74%) ended with losses.
Hindalco Industries (7.07%), Mahindra & Mahindra (6.39%), Sterlite Industries (6.37%), HDFC Bank (3.81%) and Tata Steel (2.66%) posted gains.
Market breadth on BSE remained weak with 1789 declines against 945 declines.
