MW: European shares decline in ealry trading
 
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares declined in early trading on Monday, following four straight weeks of losses, with banks and mineral extractors under notable selling pressure. Still, shares of Philips Electronics (NL:PHIA 12.95, -0.08, -0.61%) climbed 2.6% after the Dutch conglomerate posted a drop in second-quarter profit that nonetheless beat analyst expectations for a small loss. Overall, the U.K. FTSE 100 index declined 0.6% to 4,102,52, the German DAX index declined 1% to 4,530.72 and the French CAC-40 index fell 0.8% to 2,958.55.
