MW: European shares rise for third straight session
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares climbed for the third straight session on Wednesday, with technology stocks the best performers in percentage terms as investors eyed better-than-expected earnings from Intel. Shares of STMicroelectronics (FR:STM 5.42, +0.26, +5.07%) jumped 5.2% and shares of Infineon Technologies (DE:IFX 3.00, +0.10, +3.45%) advanced 4.2%. Elsewhere, Rio Tinto (UK:RIO 2,060, +48.50, +2.40%) shares climbed 2.4% after the mining giant said that its quarterly iron ore production increased 8%. The U.K. FTSE 100 index rose 0.7% to 4,267.36, the German DAX index advanced 0.9% to 4,826.20 and the French CAC-40 index climbed 0.9% to 3,109.13.
