PARIS, July 16 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said on Thursday he supported a strong dollar and the currency would remain the principal reserve currency.
"We support a strong dollar. The dollar will remain the principal reserve currency," Geithner said during an online chat on the website of French business newspaper Les Echos.
He also said that the global role of the dollar meant that the United States would have to reduce its fiscal deficit after the economic recovery.
