RTTN: Aussie Soars To 2-week High Against US Dollar
(RTTNews) - The Australian dollar extended its early European session's uptrend against the US dollar ahead of commencing the New York session on Thursday.
The aussie jumped to a 2-week high of 0.8069 against the greenback before holding its ground around 8:30 am ET. At Wednesday's close, the aussie-buck pair was quoted at 0.8033.
The US dollar declined after a report released by the Labor Department showed that the first time claims for unemployment benefits continued to decrease in the week ended July 11th, with initial jobless claims falling by more than economists had been expecting.
The report showed that jobless claims fell to 522,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 569,000. Economists had been expecting jobless claims to fall to about 530,000 from the 565,000 originally reported for the previous week.
