RTRS: Gold Fields loses up to 60 kg of gold in shutdown
JOHANNESBURG, July 17 (Reuters) - Gold Fields (GFIJ.J: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the world's No. 4 gold producer, lost between 50-60 kg of production during a shutdown of a shaft at its Kloof Gold mine in South Africa following a fatality at the mine earlier this week.
Spokesman Julian Gwillim said on Friday the company plans to make up the lost production during the next quarter.
"We estimate it to be between 50-60 kg of gold, which we plan to make up over the next quarter," he told Reuters.
Gold Fields restarted the shaft, one of five at the mine, earlier on Friday, two days after it was shut. Kloof Gold's total quarterly output is between 150,000-170,000 ounces. (Reporting by Agnieszka Flak)
