MW: Cooper Industries quarterly profit falls

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Cooper Industries Ltd. (CBE 32.94, +0.21, +0.64%) said Thursday its second-quarter earnings were $89.3 million, or 53 cents a share, compared to $161.9 million, or 92 cents a share, in the year-ago period. On an adjusted basis, the Houston manufacturer said it earned 58 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet Research were looking for earnings of 56 cents a share, on average. Cooper lowered the top end of its full-year earnings forecast to $2.30 to $2.50 a share, from $2.30 to $2.60 a share. The company expects to incur a 2009 charge of 15 cents to 18 cents a share for restructuring. Shares of Cooper Industries closed Wednesday at $32.94.
