RTTN: Indian Rupee Falls To 5-day Low Against Dollar
(RTTNews) - During early New York trading on Thursday, the dollar edged higher against its major rivals following the US Labor Department report showed that first-time claims for unemployment benefits moderately increased in the week ended July 18th.
Extending its early morning rally, the greenback climbed to a 3-day high of 94.56 against the Japanese yen and 1.0744 versus the Swiss franc by 9:15 pm ET. The dollar that closed yesterday's deals at 93.68 against the yen and 1.066 versus the franc is presently quoted at 94.51 and 1.073, respectively.
Bouncing back from its early European session's 2-day low, the dollar advanced to 1.419 against the euro and 1.6458 versus the pound by this time. The greenback, which closed Wednesday's trading at 1.4221 against the euro and 1.649 versus the pound, is currently worth 1.4195 and 1.6478, respectively.
Jobless claims rose to 554,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 524,000. Economists had expected jobless claims to increase to 557,000 from the 522,000 originally reported for the previous week.
