LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares gained on Thursday, with earnings news boosting sentiment as investors welcomed updates from companies such as oil giant Royal Dutch Shell (UK:RDSA 1,595, +8.00, +0.50%) , up 1.1%. Other earnings-related gainers included France Telecom (FR:FTE 17.44, +0.44, +2.59%) , up 3.6%, and telecoms equipment firm Alcatel-Lucent (FR:ALU 1.93, +0.12, +6.59%) , up 8.8%. The French CAC-40 index rose 0.7% to 3,389.83, the German DAX index climbed 0.6% to 5,303.07 and the U.K. FTSE 100 index advanced 0.9% to 4,586.19. |
