Crude oil prices increases faltered on their way to $72 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Wednesday.
Crude oil prices reached $71.42 per barrel before backsliding to $71.19. Heating oil prices rose 0.0136 cents to $1.915 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline prices dropped 0.162 cents to $2.0405 per gallon. Natural gas prices lost 0.003 cents to $3.998 per million British thermal units.
At the pump, the national average price for unleaded gasoline was $2.585 per gallon Wednesday, up from Tuesday's $2.561, AAA said.
