MW: Nikkei retakes 11,000 level; banks among gainers

TOKYO (MarketWatch) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 retook the 11,000-level Tuesday, after briefly topping it last Friday. In the opening minutes of trading, the Nikkei was up 0.3% and the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 0.5%. Bank shares were among gainers, with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. (JP:8306 493.00, +13.00, +2.71%) (MTU 5.37, +0.21, +4.07%) up 1.2%, Mizuho Financial Group Inc. (JP:8411 187.00, -8.00, -4.10%) (MFG 4.07, +0.02, +0.49%) up 0.5%, and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. (JP:8316 3,075, +97.00, +3.26%) (SMFJ.Y 3.27, +0.12, +3.81%) up 0.4%.
