The Sensex is heading forward due to RBI policy move. Broader markets are also performing well. Realty gained the most followed by PSU, banking, auto and oil & gas stocks. At 12.56 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 131.13 points or 0.75% at 17,531.81 with 22 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 48.65 points or 0.93% at 5,252.30 with 40 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a decline of 6.00 points or 0.03% at 17,394.68, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat at 5,203.65.
Sensex Movers
ICICI Bank contributed rise of 28.51 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (26.6 points), State Bank Of India (21.32 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (9.27 points) and Tata Motors (8.07 points).
However, Tata Consultancy Services contributed fall of 9.63 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys Technologies (8.62 points), ITC (5.53 points), Bharti Airtel (2.86 points) and Hero Honda Motors (2.63 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were DLF (3.26%), State Bank Of India (2.78%), Tata Motors (2.51%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.45%), Jaiprakash Associates (2.43%), and Reliance Infrastructure (2.25%).
On the other hand, Tata Consultancy Services (1.53%), Hero Honda Motors (1.05%), ITC (0.59%), Bharti Airtel (0.54%), Infosys Technologies (0.48%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.28%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1.50% and 1.76% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (2.02%), Ackruti City (1.58%), Alstom Projects India (1.34%), Alfa-Laval (India) (1.13%) and A I A Engineering (0.34%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Aarti Industries (3.08%), Abhishek Industries (2.19%), Provogue (India) (1.71%), A B G Infralogistics (1.49%) and A B G Shipyard (0.1%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 3,568.85, up by 108.28 points or by 3.13%. The major gainers were Ansal Properties and Infrastructure (3.74%), Indiabulls Real Estate (3.36%), D L F (3.26%), Anant Raj Industries (2.61%) and Ackruti City (1.58%).
The Bankex index was at 10,707.54, up by 189.03 points or by 1.80%. The major gainers were Canara Bank(3.86%), Bank Of India (3.14%), Allahabad Bank (2.44%), Federal Bank (1.79%) and Bank Of Baroda (0.22%).
The Auto index was at 7,627.40, up by 120.33 points or by 1.60%. The major gainers were Ashok Leyland (2.67%), Bajaj Auto (2.27%), Bharat Forge (1.78%), Apollo Tyres (1.08%) and Amtek Auto (0.3%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 5,408.95, down by 27.63 points or by 0.51%. The major losers were Patni Computer Systems (1.59%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.53%), N I I T (1.23%) and Infosys Technologies (0.48%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 2,126 advances against 663 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
ARSS Infrastructure Projects topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,666.62 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 1,027.94 million), Unitech (Rs. 750.05 million) and I C I C I Bank (Rs. 571.51 million).
The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 12.83 million shares. It was followed by Unitech (9.05 million), FCS Software Solutions (7.30 million) and Development Credit Bank (3.65 million).
