SU: JSE slips into the red
 
The JSE slipped into the red before close on Wednesday amid a lackluster trade with little economic news to provide any direction.

The JSE's all share index shed 0.25 percent and closed at 28 938.780 points.

The platinum mining index bucked the weaker trend adding 0.77 percent however resources dropped 0.75 percent while the gold mining index eased 0.24 percent.

Banks and financials lost 0.34 percent and 0.23 percent respectively however industrials gained 0.26 percent.

Among platinum miners, Angloplat lifted 1.74 percent to 818 rand however Lonmin eased 1.50 rand to 227 rand.

Resources heavyweight, Anglo American retreated 1.02 percent to 324.07 rand, while rival BHP Billiton pulled back 1.82 percent to 243.72 rand. However synthetics giant, Sasol gained 160 cents at 298.10 rand.

Among gold counters, AngloGold Ashanti announced earlier that it has secured a US$1-billion, four-year unsecured revolving credit facility from its banking syndicate to refinance its existing unsecured revolving credit facility. The group's share price shed 200 cents to 288.50 rand

Among industrials, BAT lost 1.04 rand to 250.51 rand, Imperial eased 1.22 percent to 100 rand however brewer SABMiller collected 1.32 percent to 228.58 rand while Tigerbrands climbed 1.43 percent to 187.49 rand.

Steel maker, Highveld rallied 3.57 percent to 87 rand.

Food retailer Pick n Pay earlier reported diluted headline earnings per share of 210.62 cents for the year ended February 2010 from 207.89 cents a year ago, an increase of 1.3 percent. The group declared a final dividend of 134.75 cents, bringing the total dividend to 174.5 cents - up 2.6 percent on a year ago's 170 cents. Looking ahead, the group said it expected trading for the first six months of the 2011 financial year to remain difficult. The group's share price fell 1.12 percent to 44.19 rand.

Cellular giant, MTN shed 42 cents to 110.38 rand however Vodacom gained 1.28 percent to 55.20 rand while fixed line operator Telkom jumped 2.59 percent to 38.01 rand.

Paper producer, Mondi lifted 2.64 percent to 54.40 rand.

Media group, Naspers N retreated 1.92 rand to 303.55 rand while Caxton lost 2.21 percent to 15.50 rand.

Among financial services groups, ABIL lost a percent to 35.75 rand however RMB Holdings rose 1.15 percent to 33.38 rand.

Banking giant, Absa fell a rand to 139 rand.
