MW: Energy stocks weaken after gains in previous session

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - Energy stocks fell Monday, taking a turn lower after gains in the previous session as the broader equities market traded mixed.
The NYSE Arca Oil Index (XOI 1,135, +1.33, +0.12%) fell 0.2% to 1,131. The NYSE Arca Natural Index (XNG 582.98, -1.19, -0.20%) dropped 0.4% to 582.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Index (OSX 228.88, +0.66, +0.29%) also fell, off 0.1% to 228, pulling back after having risen to a 19-month high in the previous session.
More broadly, The Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU 11,241, +36.95, +0.33%) rose 27 points, while the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 both dipped into negative territory.
Crude-oil futures rose a penny to $85.13 a barrel, in choppy early trading in the energy pits.
Shares of BP (BP 59.01, -0.87, -1.45%) fell 0.5% to $59.59, as the oil major continued to work to stem the flow of crude from the site of the sunken Deepwater Horizon rig in U.S. waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Authorities say the well under the water is leaking about 1,000 barrels a day.
