LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares retreated in early trading on Tuesday, giving back some outsize gains made in the previous session after agreement of a support package to help Greece and other countries. The losses on Tuesday came as Chinese inflation accelerated in April, data showed. Miners count China as one of their biggest customers and weakened, with Xstrata (UK:XTA 1,055, -38.00, -3.48%) shares down 3.9%. Overall, the U.K. FTSE 100 index declined 1.6% to 5,301.21, the German DAX index lost 1.5% to 5,929.64 and the French CAC-40 index fell 2% to 3,644.43.
