MW: Euro falls to four-year low against dollar in Asia trade

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares declined on Monday morning, extending sharp losses from Friday, with the euro hitting a four-year low against the dollar as investors continued to fret about the region's economic prospects. Miners and banks led the declines again, with Xstrata (UK:XTA 1,018, +8.00, +0.79%) shares down 1.5% and BNP Paribas (FR:BNP 48.13, +0.16, +0.32%) shares down 1.1%. Man Group (UK:EMG 219.00, -2.50, -1.13%) shares fell 3.3% after the hedge fund manager said that it will buy GLG for $1.6 billion. The U.K. FTSE 100 index declined 0.4% to 5,241.44, the German DAX index declined 0.4% to 6,033.99 and the French CAC-40 index lost 0.7% to 3,534.57.
