LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares edged higher in early trading on Monday, with deal news giving some banking-sector stocks a lift. KBC (BE:KBC 31.16, +0.07, +0.21%) shares were up 1.3% after agreeing to sell some operations to Daiwa and Lloyds Banking Group (UK:LLOY 54.42, -0.28, -0.51%) shares rose 1.4% after it said that it will sell its private equity unit. The U.K. FTSE 100 index rose 0.3% to 4,850.32, the German DAX index advanced 0.2% to 5,848.68 and the French CAC-40 index rose 0.3% to 3,357.38.
