FIN: TSX extends gains
 
The TSX opened higher Wednesday, extending gains from the previous session after hitting a one-year low earlier in the week.

The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index rose 30.92 points, or 0.28 per cent, to 11,231.09.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, oil gained $1.03 US to $73 US a barrel as a report Thursday is expected to show U.S. inventories declined last week due to a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. Gold fell $2.90 to $1,192.20 US an ounce.

The Canadian dollar was trading at 94.83 cents US, up 11 basis points.
