Asian stocks rose, driving up the MSCI Asia Pacific Index for the first time in four days, on speculation China`s government will soon end policies to cool the housing market.
China Resources Land gained almost 3.5% in Hong Kong as International Strategy & Investment Group said China will relax tightening policies. China Overseas Land & Investment climbed almost 2.5%.
Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 fell 107.90 points, or 1.15%, to end at 9,300.46.
Hong Kong`s Hang Seng rose 173.64 points, or 0.86%, to close at 20,264.59.
China`s Shanghai Composite gained 53.31 points, or 2.15% to settle at 2,528.73.
Taiwan`s Taiex index increased 62.20 points, or 0.81%, to end at 7,712.03.
South Korea`s Kospi index advanced 4.82 points, or 0.28% to close at 1,736.77.
Singapore`s Straits Times index gained 3.19 points, or 0.11% to settle at 2,948.61.
