LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares rose in early trading on Wednesday as earnings boosted the technology sector following a sharp jump in second-quarter profit from Apple and results from Dutch handheld satellite device maker TomTom (NL:TOM2 4.95, +0.14, +2.93%) , up 4.7%. Oil giant BP (UK:BP. 396.35, +8.90, +2.30%) climbed 1.4% after it agreed to sell some assets to Apache for $7 billion, while miners also gained. The U.K. FTSE 100 index rose 1.2% to 5,199.55, the German DAX index rose 1% to 6,028.14 and the French CAC-40 index advanced 1.3% to 3,511.58.
