TD: Euro edges higher against dollar on economy, earnings cheer, buys $1.3011
BERLIN (AP) - The euro has edged back above the $1.30 mark on good economic and corporate news.
The 16-nation euro bought $1.3011 in early European trading Tuesday - up from $1.2989 in New York late Monday.
The dollar fell Monday after the U.S. government reported a better-than-expected rise in new home sales - encouraging investors to buy assets considered riskier than the safe-haven currency.
Investors also found comfort in news that shipping giant FedEx Corp. raised its profit outlook. In Europe on Tuesday, earnings from Germany's Deutsche Bank AG exceeded expectations.
The British pound was up to $1.5510 from $1.5477. The dollar edged up to 86.97 Japanese yen from 86.87 yen.
