MW: European shares jump in early trading
 
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares jumped on Monday morning, with commodity firms leading a broad-based advance, as mining giant Rio Tinto (UK:RIO 3,431, 0.00, 0.00%) climbed 2.5% and French oil producer Total (FR:FP 40.01, 0.00, 0.00%) climbed 1.6%. BP (UK:BP. 425.35, 0.00, 0.00%) shares rose 2.1% after it said that it believes static kill and cementing operations to stop oil flowing into the Gulf of Mexico have been successful. The U.K. FTSE 100 index rose 1.2% to 5,398.30, the German DAX index rose 1.1% to 6,327.88 and the French CAC-40 index climbed 1.4% to 3,768.61.
