MW: Oil back above $72 a barrel; supply report ahead

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Oil futures on Wednesday bounced back above $72 a barrel, with it and other commodities gaining along with equities and as the U.S. dollar fell. The Energy Department reports on weekly U.S. inventories later in the day. The benchmark contract for October delivery rose in electronic trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange. On Tuesday, the contract fell $2.78 to end at $71.92 a barrel.
