BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- SPDR Gold Shares (GLD 124.15, +2.53, +2.08%) rose 2% on Tuesday to touch a record high of $124.28 a share, surpassing the previous high it set in June. The $52.6 billion gold exchange-traded fund was launched in November 2004. Also Tuesday, the iShares Silver Trust (SLV 20.02, +0.48, +2.45%) rallied more than 2% and traded above $20 a share for the first time since 2008.
