MW: Oil, gold keep gains after home builders index

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Gold and crude-oil futures held on to their gains Monday after a gauge of housing activity was flat for September. Oil for October delivery added 74 cents, or 1%, to $74.40 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold for December delivery traded at record high levels, rising 4$, ot 0.3%, to $1,281.50 an ounce. The National Association of Home Builders' sentiment index remained at a multimonth low for September.
