MW: Japan shares off lows; intervention talk hits yen

By Lisa Twaronite
TOKYO (MarketWatch) -- Japanese stocks turned positive Friday as the yen dropped against the dollar in what some reports said might have been more foreign-exchange intervention by Japanese authorities. The Nikkei Stock Average was up 0.8% and the broader Topix was up 0.4%, after the dollar suddenly jumped as high as 85.37 yen, up dramatically from 84.55 yen earlier, with media reports saying that Japanese authorities might have intervened and bought dollars to curb their currency's strength.
