SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Silver futures gave back most of their gains Monday, putting off settling above $50 an ounce for now. Silver for May delivery SIK11 +2.24% gained 7 cents, or 0.2%, to $46.12 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Division. It traded as high as $49.82 an ounce earlier, a 31-year high for the metal. Gold turned lower, also squandering early gains and after touching an intraday record.
