LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European stock markets fell in early trading Friday, giving up some of the gains they booked late in the previous session, with mining stocks and car maker PSA Peugeot Citroen FR:UG +2.42% among the early fallers. Lonmin PLC UK:LMI -1.55% led the mining sector lower with a fall of 1.3%, while Peugeot dropped 1.7% in Paris as most other automotive stocks also fell. The Stoxx Europe 600 index XX:SXXP -0.42% fell 0.4% to 270.62, the French CAC 40 index FR:PX1 -0.47% dropped 0.5% to 3,860.06, the German DAX 30 index DX:DAX -0.30% slipped 0.3% to 7,137.79 and the U.K. FTSE 100 index UK:UKX -0.44% slipped 0.3% to 5,838.32.
