MW: Dollar index edges higher after Fed statement

By Laura Mandaro

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. dollar edged higher against a basket of currencies Wednesday after the Federal Reserve released its statement on monetary policy. The dollar index DXY -0.09% rose to 74.699 from 74.553 late Tuesday, and 74.598 ahead of the statement. The dollar held to minor losses against the euro EURUSD -0.05% , which bought $1.44. The Federal Reserve kept benchmark interest rates near zero and said its bond-buying program would end as scheduled. It also said the moderate pace of growth and labor market were weaker than expected.
