BLBG:Ruble Gains Fifth Day Versus Dollar in Longest Run Since April
he ruble gained against the dollar for a fifth day, poised for its longest winning streak in two months, as oil rose in New York.
Russia’s currency appreciated 0.1 percent to 27.8040 per dollar as of 10:30 a.m. in Moscow. A close at that level would mean the longest winning streak since April 29. Against the euro, the ruble weakened 0.2 percent to 40.41.
Crude, Russia’s chief export, advanced after European finance ministers authorized an 8.7 billion-euro ($12.6 billion) aid payment to Greece on July 2. Crude for August delivery last traded up 0.4 percent at $95.28 a barrel.
Moves against the dollar and the euro left the ruble up 0.2 percent at 33.471 versus the central bank’s target currency basket, which it uses to manage swings that hurt Russian exporters. The basket is calculated by multiplying the dollar’s rate to the ruble by 0.55, the euro to ruble rate by 0.45, then adding them together.
The ruble’s trading hours on the Micex exchange were extended to close at 7 p.m. on July 1 from 5 p.m. previously.
