Base metal prices rose by up to Rs 10 per kg in the local metal market today on increased demand from consuming industries amid a firming global trend.
Trading sentiment in base metals turned better after copper advanced in London as stronger-than-expected economic data from China, the world's largest consumer, boosted the demand outlook.
Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery climbed 0.8% to $9,730 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
Traders said increased demand from consuming industries and reports of firming trend in overseas market mainly pushed up base metal prices.
In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap remained in demand advanced by Rs 2 each to Rs 502, Rs 525 and Rs 485, respectively, while nickel (4x4) added Rs 10 to Rs 1,060-1,062 per kg.
Zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported also traded higher by Rs 2 each to Rs 130.50, Rs 142 and Rs 145 per kg, respectively.
