The JSE closed solidly in the black before close on Wednesday amid a good boost from buoyant gold counters, after the price of gold hit a fresh high of US$1578.95 earlier on Wednesday.
The JSE's all-share index lifted 1.20 percent and closed at 32 310.38 points.
The gold mining index skyrocketed 4.69 percent, resources collected 1.66 percent, while the platinum mining index added 0.72 percent.
Banks and financials added 0.46 percent and 0.33 percent respectively while industrials climbed 1.08 percent.
