PAIV:Botswana Metals hits high grade copper silver at Dibete, near Airstrip prospect in Botswana

Botswana Metals (ASX: BML) has intersected high grade copper and silver from a 6000 metre drill program completed at the Dibete prospect in Botswana, adding weight to the resource estimation study set to be carried out following the next phase of drilling.

Significantly, Dibete has similarities to the Airstrip prospect and may be part of a larger mineralised system encompassing Airstrip 6.5 kilometres to the west-north-west.
The copper and silver at Dibete (PL111/94) was intersected along two NW-SE trending structures, with mineralisation still open.

Highlights include:

- 11 metres at 4.5% copper and 229.9 grams per tonne (g/t) silver from 33 metres, including 3 metres at 8.16% copper and 469g/t silver; and
- 17 metres at 2.7% copper and 41g/t silver from 16 metres, including 3 metres at 6.7% copper and 44.5g/t silver, and also 3 metres at 4.7% copper and 106.9g/t silver.
The company would be encouraged by the close proximity of the Airstrip and Dibete projects, which have similar primary and supergene mineralisation. The area between these two prospects remains untested.

The mineralisation associated with the line 6100E structure remains open to the north, east and west with a current strike length of 250 metres.

A total of 93 reverse circulation drill holes for 6000 metres were completed at Dibete prospect during March to June 2011.

This program was designed to assess the orientation and geometry of the mineralisation intersected in 2010 and also includes several holes at Dibete East.

Copper and silver has been intersected in both secondary mineralisation (around 18 metres to 35 metres depth) and in primary mineralisation (at around 36 metres to 45 metres).

The primary and supergene sulphide mineralised zone consists of chalcocite, pyrite, and bornite vein swarms which are silver rich.

The primary mineralisation may extend at depth associated with a VTEM anomaly off to the south. The company said this needs to be confirmed by additional drilling.

Several other VTEM anomalies have now been interpreted from the recently completed Helicopter VTEM flight program, which are yet to be fully tested.

Extensive IP and VTEM anomalies remain partly tested at Dibete confirming potential is open at Dibete.

In February best results from drilling at Airstrip included a 4 metre intersection of 16.99% copper, including 1 metre at 25% copper and 1 metre at 23% copper, and 1071g/t silver - or around 33 silver ounces per tonne.

The announcement of these results caused shares in Botswana Metals to spike a massive 242%.

The Airstrip Copper and Maibele North Nickel discovery is only 50 kilometres north to the Selebi Phikwe Nickel mine and smelter and south about 100 kilometres from the Tati Nickel producing mine in Botswana.

Botswana Metals shares rose 33.33% to $0.12 in trading this morning.
