TH:Rupee down by 4 paise against dollar in early trade

The Indian rupee lost 4 paise to Rs. 44.11 per U.S. dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Friday, weighed down by dollar gains against other Asian currencies overseas and a weak trend in the stock market.

Forex dealers said strengthening of the dollar against other Asian currencies and a lower opening in the stock market amid month-end dollar demand from importers mainly put pressure on the rupee.

The rupee settled just 1 paise higher at Rs. 44.07/08 against the U.S. dollar in yesterday’s see-saw session on alternate bouts of buying and selling.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex fell by 75.10 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 18,134.42 in opening trade on Friday.
