MADRID (MarketWatch) -- Spectra Energy Corp. SE -2.51% on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $307 million, or 44 cents a share, against $174 million, or 27 cents a share in the year-ago period, helped in part by higher commodity prices and a stronger Canadian dollar. Operating revenue rose 12% to $1.19 billion against $1.06 billion in the year-ago period. A survey of analysts polled by FactSet Research were forecasting the company to earn 40 cents per share. "At the midpoint of the year, we feel confident in our ability to not only deliver on, but exceed our stated $1.65 EPS target and other key financial and operational objectives for 2011," said Greg Ebel, president and chief executive officer, Spectra Energy Corp.
