RTRS:Zambian kwacha near one-year low against dollar
JOHANNESBURG Aug 9 (Reuters) - Zambia's kwacha fell to near a one-year low against the dollar on Tuesday as investors fled emerging and frontier market assets.
The currency of Africa's biggest copper producer shed nearly one percent against the dollar to 5,015 as of 1144 GMT, its lowest since Aug. 13, 2010.
The currency, which has traded in a 4,600-4,800 band for most of the last 12 months, closed at 4,955 on Monday.
Analysts attribute the currency's weakness to a sharp fall in copper prices as well as political nervousness ahead of Sept. 20 elections.
The price of copper , which accounts for 80 percent of the southern African country's export earnings, fell 8 percent last week. It edged up slightly on Tuesday. (Reporting by Olivia Kumwenda)
