LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European stock markets extended their losses Thursday as global growth worries hit banking and mining stocks particularly hard. Shares in Credit Agricole FR:ACA -3.25% dropped 4% in Paris and Commerzbank AG DE:CBK -4.69% was down 5% in Frankfurt. Miner Xstrata PLC UK:XTA -5.27% dropped 4.9% in London. The Stoxx Europe 600 index XX:SXXP -2.51% fell 2.5% to 232.22, the U.K. FTSE 100 index UK:UKX -2.22% dropped 2% to 5,227.39, the French CAC 40 FR:PX1 -2.77% fell 2.5% to 3,173.24 and the German DAX 30 DX:DAX -3.53% tumbled 3.2% to 5,759.49.
