The benchmark NZX50 index slipped 4 points to close at 3286 on turnover of $71 million.
Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 index is down 48 points, or 1.1%, at 4256.
The New Zealand dollar is at 83.26 US, 79.36 Australian, 50.44 pence, 63.87 yen, 0.5786 euro and the Trade Weighted Index stands at 71.4.
Fletcher Building was up 9 cents to $7.95, Telecom was down 4.5 cents to $2.605, Contact Energy remained unchanged at $5.02.
Sky City Entertainment was down 3 cents at $3.51 and The Warehouse was unchanged at $3.40.
APN News & Media was down 8 cents to $1.05 and Port of Tauranga was up 10 cents to $9.38.
AMP was up 14 cents to $5.38.
