FX: Asian markets tumble...Bank of America cuts jobs
 
BANGKOK (AP) — Asian stock markets are sharply lower amid signs of a possible U.S. dip into another recession and renewed worries over the health of Europe's banks are pushing Asian stock markets sharply lower. There's also a major selloff pushing crude oil prices down to near $81 a barrel in Asia.

UNDATED (AP) — Published reports say coming job cuts at the biggest U.S. bank by assets might exceed 10,000 or about 3.5 percent of its current work force. The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times report Bank of America Corp. is cutting 3,500 employees this quarter and working on restructuring plans.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Hewlett-Packard is throwing in the towel on many consumer products. The company is surrendering in smartphones and tablet computers and has put its personal computer division up for sale as it tries to become a twin of East Coast archrival IBM.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — At least three people are dead and two wounded after two suicide bombers attacked a British compound in the Afghan capital on Friday. An official from the British Embassy confirmed that there had been an attack. The Taliban claims responsibility.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Sugarland has returned to the stage for their first performance since a stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair killed five people. The Grammy-winning country duo asked its Albuquerque audience for a moment of silence in honor of those who were wounded "and the beautiful lives that were lost."
